Nutrition Complete app good for
It seems to me that many reviews of iPhone apps have nothing to do with the apps. People just like to whine about the price tag. You can afford 100 bucks a month for your phone, but not 5 bucks for an app? You spend that much on a coffee at Starbucks!
Yes, if you spend time looking at the web, you might find nutrition data. But then, why not just getting rid of your iPhone since you can make phone call on the web for free, too! Whats the point?
If you have not bought the app and have nothing to say about the app itself, dont even comment on it.
Some people say information should be free... well it SHOULD be... so long as the person finds the information himself. As soon as the person requires help to gather that information, it is no longer "free". So I applaud this application for giving the ordinary person great access to the food charts, nutrition, etc from the FDA. Not only it is great for people who want to live a healthy lifestyle, its great for people who want to track their caloric intake :) And no other application Ive seen so far gets this information down, so lets see you write one and give it away for free... not so easy compiling the information, is it?
Anyway, quick pros and cons... if youre still with me.
Pros:
Quick and good interface :)
Great information and great database.
Cons:
For some people, it may not be worth it to pay $5 for their health
have to look up stuff manually, cant scan barcodes :(
Still, I can see this app is pretty good considering its just barely a month old... so I give it a 5 stars :)
I believe there are many people who are concious about what they are putting in their body; this app is exactly what Im looking for.
My only suggestion up to this point is linking the different vitamins, minerals, etc from search results to a database (wikipedia or whatever) that explains what they are good for and what they do for your body.
I was recently placed on a medication called coumadin and told to be careful about eating foods with vitamin K. Its hard to know the vitamin K content on most foods. This app takes away the guess work. You can narrow down the setting to include your nutrients of interest and adjust the portion size. I would think this would be useful for people on other restricted diets ie. gout, low sodium or potassium. My only suggestion would be to include more foods.
This is the most complete nutrition database Ive yet seen. Although it is true that I can not find "avacado," (see 1 star review below) I was able to find avocado with no problem. Id like to be able to browse, rather than just search, but all in all, this application does what it says it does.
I was so pleased to see at least one Heart Patient and Coumadin user wrote a review. That is precisely what I was looking for, for myself. I have had 2 heart valve replacements in 4 months and it is vital that I assist my heart in working without strain. Along with other meds, Coumadin is vital and "you are what you eat" when managing a heart related challenge. Just remember Weight Loss calorie counting and Nutritional values are two seperate issues. There are many health challenges that have nothing to do calorie counting.
Some bad moments
The database is apparently quite large, but there is no way yet to browse through it. All you can do is to enter a search term and wait for the results of the database. To browse the categories by name or nutrition amounts would be really helpful.
Alltogether there should be more delivered for the price.
Frustratingly limited choices of foods and servings. I found it next to useless.
This app was very disappointing. Useless for my needs. The nutrient information is available free on the internet.
I thought the app would show daily totals of nutritents etc. Also not user friendly!
- long entries do not fit and cannot be read (!!)
- favourite list cannot be organized by categories or alphabetically
- fonts way too small
- grey fonts do not read on black background
Search feature needs to be tweaked. The feature that changes the portion size is great but needs to be refined and easier to control. Would love it if there were more food items added. Please fix the spelling on "suger".
This is not what I thoght it was . I thought it would total my daily everything. I wanted to keep track of my dailey intake of protein etc. I dont want this at all . I want my money back.
